Varsity Lacrosse Team Returns to Winning Ways
The CHS Varsity Lacrosse team returned to the field on a cold and cloudy Wednesday night. Before a small crowd at Olympia Stadium, the Bears were taking on arch rival, Dutchtown. After a day of rain, the boys were excited to get on the field to compete for victory, coming away with a 6-4 win.
Scoring was started by Matthew Berdon at the 5:49 mark of the first quarter, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead. Berdon ended the game with 2 goals. Tres Hawkins led the Bears in scoring with three goals for a Hat Trick. Reeves Walker joined in with a goal. The helper of the game was Justin David who had three assists.
Defensively, the Bears were lead by Landon Tujague with five ground balls and Zach Minton with 11 saves.
A big moment in the game came with 4:40 to go in the game and the Bears up 5-4 lead, when a 30 second penalty was called against Minton. Coach Tyler Gray called a time-out so back-up goalie Jacob Honoreí´ could warm up and he could address the team. The players were told to keep the momentum going and not look back, with the Captains yelling for everyone to focus. Honoreí´ and the man down defense were able to kill the penalty and get the ball over to the offense.
The win evens the varsity teams record at 1-1 as they prepare to head west to Houston for games against some of the Houston powerhouse teams.
