With a Sluggish Start Against Tuerlings last week, The Bears are Back Home for the District Opener with the St. Amant Gators This Friday

Catholic High got off to a sluggish start in Lafayette last Friday and spotted the Teurlings Catholic Rebels a 7-6 halftime lead.  The Bears got a swift kick in the rear from the staff at the break and the visitors outscored the homestanding Rebels 28-7 in the second half to win the week five contest, 34-14.  With the win, Catholic moved to 4-1 while Teurlings dropped to 2-3.

The offense was led by Braelen Morgan, who scored two touchdowns and topped the 100 yard mark on the ground.  Tywon McDowell had a pick six for the Bears and Elijah Reames also had an interception to pace the defense.  Cole Cazenave was perfect on extra points and had a punt for 56 yards to lead the special teams.

The Bears are back at home for the district opener with the St. Amant Gators on Friday.  Kickoff for the 5-5A opener is for 7:05 pm at Memorial Stadium.  The rivalry is one of the most intense in Catholic High football history with the Gators winning by a touchdown at The Pit last season.  Prior to 2017, CHS won three games in a row against St. Amant.

The Bears are ranked #5 in the most recent LSWA Class 5A poll.
